Rehearsal Notes
  • The main melody is restricted to the first six notes of the concert B-flat scale, however some of the other parts stray outside of that framework just slightly. However, the song is still playable by younger ensembles.

  • Watch out for Forte-Piano marking throughout the song, the sustained parts cannot overpower the the moving lines.

  • Watch out for the swells, particularly at measure 59, the phrases are all 2 measures long and the swells outline that phrasing.

Program Notes

Uncharted strives to paint the picture of a journey into space. It begins with the rush fo the launch, and the exhilaration of the flight into the uncharted regions of space. As the space shuttle hurtles through space the astronauts get to see the earth in a way that most people can only see in pictures, they get to witness the majesty and beauty of space. This is shown in the middle section of the song which switches from fast and intense to lyrical and smooth. As their journey comes full circle the shuttle furiously hurtles back towards earth, passing through the atmosphere before heroically landing and completing their mission
