Rehearsal Notes
The Main Melody uses only the 1st six notes of the Concert B-Flat Scale, however some of the other parts extended beyond the 1st 6 notes
Performers should pay close attention to the swells, the phrases are two measures long with each phrase swelling up and back down again
Low Brass and Low Woodwinds parts are all doubled
Mallet part at M.51 is optional, but best when played on a vibraphone with the pedal down
Program Notes
Long Distance paints the picture of two lovers who, as the title suggests, have been separated by a great distance. The two individuals are "singing" the same song from their separate locations, symbolized by the ensemble being split into two distinct parts throughout the song. Eventually the melodies unite and the full ensemble plays together as the two lovers are finally able to be together again. The song is inspired by a true story, and is dedicated to Bri and Ben.
