Rehearsal Notes
  • Uses only the 1st six notes of the Concert B-Flat Scale

  • 12 Percussion Parts (5 are optional, includes Advanced Snare Drum)

  • Optional Effect: Have the 3 cymbal parts be spread out (stage left, center stage and stage right) to give the impression of lightning crashes coming from many different places

  • Low Brass and Low Woodwinds parts are all doubled


Program Notes

Catatumbo Lightning is a natural phenomenon that occurs at the mouth of the Catatumbo river in Venezuela. The atmospheric conditions result in lightning storms occurring 140-160 nights a year. These storms typically last for 9 hours, with as many as 40 lightning flashes per minute during the storms.
